Ginger knows that practical choices guarantee a stable life, which is why she chose a career as an office manager. Her job provides a steady paycheck, but it also has her snoozing at her desk. She wishes she'd pursued her passion for interior decorating rather than business.

She’s also trying to forget Greg Shaffer—the gorgeous emergency room doctor she met at a dance club last month. Her dad was an emergency room doctor and the stress of the job turned him into a raging alcoholic, which didn’t exactly create happy childhood memories.

Ginger believes donating her decorating services to her friend’s charity auction is the perfect fix for both her problems. She'll get a break from the daily grind, get her creative juices flowing, and stay so busy she'll finally forget about Greg.

But then Greg ends up buying the condo right above her. Even worse, he deliberately wins the bid on her auction item. Greg seems determined to prove to Ginger that practicality has nothing on passion. And as Ginger brings beauty into Greg's world, how can she possibly resist the beauty he brings to hers?

Up to Date Better Date than Never Series Book 8 edition by Susan Hatler Literature Fiction eBooks

This was a quick read and while I appreciate that it was a clean romance, which seems to be so rare anymore, there were just a few too many things that irked me about Ginger to truly appreciate the book. I can understand being hurt by her father and his personal choices, but it is terribly unfair to group ALL emergency room doctors into uncaring drunks who can't cope with death. I also cringe everytime anyone thinks that because their childhood wasn't angelic and perfect, that the answer is to have no children at all, as Ginger did--I don't follow that sort of logic I guess. I am happy that the author resolved this issue at the end, though it was done hastily (after Ginger hastily confronted her mother and sister and they meekly accepted and changed their ways within a chapter). Just a few too many unrealistic character interactions (though Greg was one very redeeming aspect of the book) to make this book truly enjoyable.

Up to Date Better Date than Never Series Book 8 edition by Susan Hatler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Ginger Nielsen wasn't happy with her office job anymore, answering to phone calls, locating budget-friendly janitorial services, informing co-workers to fill out paperwork for office supplies. Yes, such a mundane boring job, but she endured because it paid the bills and her sister's whims. But all she wanted to do was create paintings, craft some art and design houses, but her mother didn't approve because it won't get her anywhere.

Enter amber eyed emergency doctor and gorgeous male specimen named Greg Schaffer and Ginger almost fell in love. Almost, but she didn't pursue any feelings for him because she was afraid Greg would turn up into her father - no time for family, drowned his problems in misery and alcohol. No, she didn't want that same experience ever again. So she turned down his advances and rejected any future feelings for him.

I love love love every book Susan Hatler writes. Everyone ends up with someone, happily ever after as they say, but each got a different story to tell. I am loving all her other series, and Up to Date doesn't disappoint. Although at first I was having second thoughts about Ginger because there was so much negativity going on with her life. She's not satisfied with her job and she's so quick to think worst about other people, specifically Greg. In my mind, I was screaming at her, telling her to grow a backbone and all. In the end though, I smiled and sighed with satisfaction.

Susan Hatler sure knows how to appease my heart and I am always grateful for all the wonderful stories she writes. Would never get tired of reading all her books!
This series must be read in order. The first book is Love At First Date. The second book is Truth Or Date. The third book is My Last Blind Date. The fourth book is Save The Date. The fifth book is A Twist Of Date. The sixth book is License To Date. The seventh book is Driven To Date. This is the eighth book. I can't wait to read Déjà Date!

Ginger has always been the responsible one... Even though she is artistic and loves art. Her parents talked her out of her Art Major in college and into a Business Management degree. Her friend talked her into donating her decorating skills to a charity silent auction and she is beyond nervous. How can anyone want her to decorate for them? She has zero qualifications or experience! On top of that she can't get Greg out of her mind. He is totally wrong for her. An ER doc just like her alcoholic father. He probably wants kids too! Can she resist the urge to draw closer to the man she finds irresistible even though she knows he is then opposite of what is sensible? Can she has her get past her rotten childhood and make a life of her own? Or will she always do the thing that is expected of her even though itnkills her dreams?
I have read Susan Hatler books before and liked them but this one was really disappointing. I almost didn't bother to finish.

On and on and on Ginger droned about her dad's drinking being why she can't try with the hot ER doc Greg who clearly wanted her. Not quite sure why he kept trying after all the times she turned him down.

How many times did she have to explain why she was turning him down? We get it! Your dad was a raging alcoholic ER doc who dealt with the stress and sadness of what happens in the ER with booze and so you didn't want the same life. How many times do you have to explain it in the book? Once or twice would have sufficed.

Her sister Mary Ann was ridiculous and took advantage of her. Getting facials but can't afford her half of the rent? Grow up and quit covering for her! And her mom. Seriously, how old are you that you'd let your mom get away with controlling your life?

By the end I wasn't even rooting for her to get the guy - he was too good and nice for her and she was too stubborn and judged people not by their behavior but by her dad's behavior. I also found it frustrating that even though she was adamant she didn't want kids, she all of a sudden changes her mind after feeling her friend's baby move in her belly at a shower. Eye roll.

The one thing I liked was the characters, even the cats, being named after Gilligans Island characters.
